Cutting Board Care Instructions
Caring for Your Bill's Boards Cutting Board
Your handcrafted cutting board has been finished with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax, making it ready for a lifetime of use right out of the box. With a little regular care, it will stay beautiful for years to come.
Daily Use
- Wash your board by hand with warm, soapy water after each use.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a towel — never let it soak in water.
- Do not put your cutting board in the dishwasher — the heat and prolonged moisture will cause cracking and warping.
- Stand the board upright or lay it flat to air dry completely before storing.
Ongoing Maintenance
- Re-oil your board every 3–4 weeks, or whenever the wood starts to look dry or dull.
- Apply a generous coat of food-safe mineral oil with a clean cloth, let it soak in for a few hours (or overnight), then wipe off any excess.
- Follow up with a thin coat of beeswax conditioner to seal and protect the surface.
- Never use vegetable, olive, or coconut oil — these can go rancid inside the wood over time.
Removing Odors & Stains
- Sprinkle coarse salt on the board and rub with half a lemon to naturally deodorize and lift light stains.
- Rinse and dry thoroughly after treatment, then re-oil.
Storage
- Store your board in a dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Avoid storing flat against a wall for extended periods — allow airflow on both sides.
